On February 4–5, 2026, Thorsten Bathelt (scapos AG) and Dr. Ingo Steiner (Luminous Algorithms GmbH) jointly attended the DVN Lighting Workshop in Munich.

The workshop provided the setting to announce a new cooperation between scapos and Luminous Algorithms, focused on software solutions for automated optical engineering. Luminous Algorithms enables engineers to compute manufacturable free-form optical surfaces directly from product specifications, significantly reducing manual design effort and development time.

By combining scapos’ expertise in industrial software and system integration with the optical automation capabilities of Luminous Algorithms, the partnership aims to support more efficient, specification-driven engineering workflows in lighting and optical system design.

The software is fully web-based and supports a specification-driven workflow for defining light distributions, mechanical constraints and optical targets. Using patented algorithms, it automatically generates physically valid, production-ready optical surfaces that can be exported directly into CAD, simulation and rendering environments. This allows optical design to be seamlessly integrated into existing engineering workflows.

More information about Luminous Algorithms and its capabilities is available on this product page.
